How did we test both air fryers?

To create a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the true performance of both the Cosori and Gourmia air fryers, we tested them with a variety of different foods, from frozen chicken wings and fries to fresh, soluble vegetables. We also loaded both air fryers in keeping with the manufacturer’s instructions, to get the best results.

Chicken wings

We started our tests with frozen, but well-seasoned chicken wings, drizzling just a small amount of olive oil over them for flavour. We then added them to both air fryers at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes, which is the recommendation that was given by the manufacturers.

To ensure the chicken wings were cooked thoroughly and evenly throughout, we flipped the wings every five minutes, adding more seasoning as necessary. Both air fryers performed well, as the chicken wings were cooked throughout the recommended time. We did find though, that the Cosori air fryer did make the chicken wings a bit crispier than the Gourmia air fryer.

Frozen fries

Our next test was frozen fries. We placed about a half-pound of fries in both the Cosori and Gourmia air fryers at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, for 10 minutes. As per the manufacturer’s instructions, we stirred them halfway through the cooking process to ensure that the fries were evenly distributed in the baskets. Both air fryers provided thoroughly cooked fries that were crispy, but again, the Cosoriair fryer did make them just a tad bit crispier.

White sandwich bread & Vegetables

For our last 2 tests, we tried white sandwich bread, and fresh, ready to stir-fry vegetables in both air fryers. Beginning with the white sandwich bread, we placed two slices in the air fryer baskets at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for three minutes, as recommended. This time though, we didn’t flip the slices of bread to the other side, simply because we wanted to authentically test these recommendations. The Gourmia air fryer did an amazing job at toasting the bread to a light brown colour with just a little crunch, but the Cosori air fryer made it too crispy, with the toast almost becoming burnt.

Lastly, we added our combination of carrots, zucchini and eggplant that were ready to be stir-fried, after preheating each air fryer for three minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Before adding the veggies, we coated the basket with a little oil and then we added them on a 12-minute timer. Halfway through, we stirred the veggies to make sure they were cooked evenly throughout. For this, both air fryers did exceptionally well, cooking the veggies at the perfect consistency.

11 Key Differences between the Cosori & Gourmia Air fryers

To help you with your decision making, we’ve compiled this list of the 11 main differences that you need to consider before choosing either the Cosori or Gourmia air fryer. Let’s take a look!

Cooking Performance & Ease of Use

The number one factor to consider when purchasing an air fryer is how well it will be able to perform those specific cooking tasks that you do on a regular basis. It is also necessary for you to understand not just how well it cooks, but also how easy it is to use, and how long (or short), the cleanup process will be.

Both the Cosori and Gourmia air fryers have multiple cooking functions and are conveniently easy to use with one-touch options that can prepare the perfect meal in a matter of minutes. When it comes to cleaning up, both the Cosori and Gourmia air fryers feature a nonstick, dishwasher safe basket, multipurpose rack and crisper tray, which make clean up quick and convenient. Ultimately, both air fryers rival each other in cooking performance and easability, making for quick cooking with minimal prep, and a fast and easy cleanup process.

Manufacturing & Company History

The Gourmia brand has designed kitchenware for decades and is well-known as a reputable brand in the United States. With its headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, Gourmia manufactures quality cooking appliances that are dependable, easy to use and allow their consumers to have a quick clean up time.

The origins of the Cosori brand are not as easy to ascertain, but we do know that the company manufactures their products in China, with operations set up in the United States and Canada.  Cosori’s parent company, Vesync., Ltd, started manufacturing products in 2012 and has designed multiple small appliances for the home in the past decade.

Both products present a sleek, modern and minimalist design, which is in keeping with the trends of the present day. The Cosori and Gourmia air fryers are both constructed with a non-stick removable basket for easy cooking and cleaning. In addition, Gourmia’s air fryer also includes a multi-use rack and a nonstick crisper tray that are also highly convenient. Though both products have been manufactured on completely different continents, they rival each other in design and construction.

For the modern generation especially, the aesthetics and design of a product are two major factors to consider before purchasing a product, and we are happy to report that both the Cosori and Gourmia air fryers are doing extremely well in both these categories.

Both air fryers boast a modern, aesthetic and streamlined design, that is perfect for your kitchen counter. There are only a few differences between the two in design. While the Gourmia is more round in shape, the Cosori air fryer is more rectangular round. The Gourmia is designed in one colour (black), while the Cosori air fryer comes in multiple colours. Another key difference in their design is that the Gourmia air fryer has the dimensions of 15.1 x 13.6 x 13.3 inches, while the Cosori air fryer is 11.8 x 14.3 x 12.7 inches including the handle.

Gourmia’s air fryer boasts a 12 in 1, multi-use touch functionality, while Cosori’s air fryer boasts a 13-in-1 functionality. Some of these popular functions include air-fry, reheating, warming, defrosting, and toasting, and are represented by small one-touch icons on the interface of both machines.

Both air fryers also have similar capacities, with the Cosori air fryer boasting a capacity of around 20 servings, while the Gourmia air fryer boasts a capacity of about 21-22 servings. With similar cooking times, functionality and capacities, your choice will be largely dependent on the specific factors that are unique to you and your household.

The Cosori air fryer comes with a one-year warranty and has the option of extending this warranty to include an additional year when you register your product on their website. Within these two years, once the product has not been damaged by use or neglect, they will send you a replacement if any issue were to arise.

Gourmia’s warranty, on the other hand, is only accessible after having the product for a year or less and requires you to show proof of purchase. Apart from this,  if the product is defective by no means of the consumer, then the individual company it is purchased from will let you know how to move forward.

As it concerns pricing, Gourmia’s air fryer is a little more expensive with prices ranging from $107-$124 USD, but used offers may carry a lower price. For Cosori’s air fryers, prices are usually listed between $99-$119 USD.

It is important to have a product that is not only easy to use but that functions effectively based on the controls that are listed. Because both air fryers contain icons on the actual interface as opposed to words, it is important for you to review the manufacturer’s manual carefully to understand what each icon means.

For those who prefer touch-based items, then either air fryer has the perfect controls for you. The Gourmia air fryer has a whopping 12 one-touch buttons – from adjusting temperature, time is taken to bake and fry, and much more. The Cosori air fryer, on the other hand, has thirteen preset buttons to help you achieve your cooking desires. Cosori also has a Wi-fi function that allows you to control your device through your phone, tablet or computer.

Both the Gourmia and Cosori air fryers are noisy, but the Gourmia is better for the average person when it concerns quietness. Both air fryers have a slight wind-based noise as it cooks the meals. It also has a beeping sound that can get annoying for the everyday user.

Downsides Detected

Both Cosori and Gourmia have made premium quality air fryers that are great for daily use, but there are a few downsides that we need to let you know about before deciding which is best to purchase. Here is or list of the major downsides that we have detected when using both of these air fryers.

  • Noisy Cooking for the Cosori – As we stated above, the Cosori air fryer tends to make a consistent beeping sound when cooking, which can make it inconvenient to use on a daily basis. This is something to be considered, as this beeping sound can be considered annoying, especially if you are in the kitchen multiple times per day.
  • Smoking when being used for longer periods of time – We have noticed during testing that the Gourmia air fryer gives off a little smoke, especially when used to make toast or when frying food that takes time. We’re not sure exactly why, but this can be highly inconvenient, especially if you have respiratory issues.
  • Leaky Cosori when used for an extended time period – One downside that we have noticed that is unique to Cosori’s air fryers is the leaking. Reviewers have said that the Cosori air fryer will leave water puddles on any surface it’s stored on; the puddles are said to be from the steam when cooking. We noticed this during testing as well.
  • WiFi function can prove ineffective – Lastly, though some Cosori air fryers have a wifi feature that can be used on multiple devices, there have been many instances where this function has become unresponsive, and reviewers have also listed this as one of their main complaints.

Should You Buy Cosori or Gourmia?

We hope the information above has been effective in helping you to decide, but if you’re still not 100% clear, here are our main takeaways from both air fryers.

  • Both models are easy to clean because they have nonstick surfaces and are dishwasher safe.
  • Both have easy touch options due to being designed with already preset buttons.
  • Both are big enough to cook meals for a large family. The Cosori carries a capacity of 5.8 Qt, while the Gourmia carries 6Qt.
  • Both brands have multiple models (at different prices, costs, and designs) to choose from.

Both air fryers have their strengths and weaknesses, but your decision is ultimately based on your needs and lifestyle.

 Other Competition

If neither the Cosori nor the Gourmia air fryers fit your bill, there are a host of other options to consider. Here are three more of our picks for a great air fryer.

  • Ninja Foodi Air fryer – With an 8-in-1 functionality and Digital crisp control technology, the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer has been rapidly gaining popularity as a product to watch out for. It is 45% larger than the average air fryer, with an interior that is able to fit a 13-inch pizza, and 6 chicken breasts. Though it is priced quite higher at a retail price of $239.99, it is a great alternative for those who are cooking for a large family.
  • Instant Vortex Air fryer – This air fryer is more suited to the bachelor or bachelorette, with a 4 in 1 functionality that carries out all the basic air frying presets. Like most air fryers, it contains a removable and dishwasher safe air fryer basket and tray, and easy to use touch display. It retails at $119.99, rivalling both the Gourmia and Cosori in the price range.
  • Instant Pot Duo Air fryer – Last on our list is the Instant Pot Duo air fryer, which also has pressure cooking capabilities, and an 11-in-1 functionality. Retailing at about $199.99, the Instant Pot Duo air fryer is larger in size, but as easy to use and effective as its counterparts listed above.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1.  Is an air fryer the healthier choice? – The air fryer was created to be a healthier source than traditional frying, as it uses new technology to produce the same fried and deep-fried taste with less oil and fat.
  2. Do I always have to preheat before using? – No, this is a personal choice that is dependent on you. The preheated time added to the cooking time would be the same if you had opted to just cook the meal in one go. However, if you are cooking frozen food, you may want to preheat as recommended by the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Are all air fryers non-stick? – No, some of them do not come with this feature. In this case, it is best to lightly coat the pan with a non-stick oil or grease of your choice and you should get your intended result.
  4. What are the usual attachments/accessories offered?  – This varies from brand to brand, but usually, you get the air frying basket and any added trays or racks that are necessary for a wholesome product.  Make sure to research and choose an air fryer depending on what you want.
  5. How should I clean my air fryer? – Some air fryer baskets and trays are dishwasher safe and removable, while others are not. If it is dishwasher safe, then all you need to do is add it to the dishwasher, but if not you will need to use a cloth to wipe down the outer surface of the air fryer.
  6. How much does an average air fryer hold? – Standard air fryers can fit food for 2 to 4 servings, but this depends on the food itself. Do not not crowd the basket, or else the food will not be evenly cooked. If you choose to make multiple batches – make sure to check your batches to ensure it is evenly cooked.
  7. Do I charge or plug in my air fryer? – For your specific product, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. There is a chance you can find an air fryer that is rechargeable, but most, if not all require electricity to be used.
